Healthy Choices: Antioxidants
One thing that science has found to be useful in staying healthy is antioxidants. These molecules break down dangerous oxidants that would otherwise attack healthy cells, often killing them. There are several foods and drinks which are high in antioxidants, and it seems that it is the new fad. One of the foods highest in antioxidants is the açai berry found near the rivers, swamps and other waterways of the Amazon jungle. When the açai berry is freeze dried, it has its highest count of antioxidants. Antioxidants in the body include vitamin e, vitamin c and glutathione which can be found in many different foods. Vitamin C is quite possibly the easiest vitamin, or antioxidant, to find as it is available in any citrus fruit. Not only can antioxidants be found in foods and drinks, it also has some industrial uses. Antioxidants are found in some cosmetics and also prevent the breakdown of rubber and gasoline. Antioxidants have several benefits to our health other than breaking down unhealthy oxidants. There are quite a few studies that link antioxidants to cancer prevention such as the research done on antioxidants and prostate cancer. It might also help in the prevention of hearing loss. There is also one study that links diabetes to a lack of antioxidants in the body. New studies have found that honey is a good source of antioxidants, the lighter colored ones being the most beneficial. So along with a healthy diet, plenty of foods including antioxidants, and exercise life can be wonderful.
